Prices and features change; check theirs before you decide. Chatbase prices are in US dollars, ours in euros excluding VAT.
The short version
Choose ChatterLab if you want your data stored in the EU, an AI Act notice that is built in, prices in euros per workspace, or tools to run chatbots for clients, on the Agency plan. Choose Chatbase if you need voice, telephony, outbound campaigns or its wider set of integrations, or a vendor with SOC 2 Type II and a HIPAA-eligible Enterprise plan.

Chatbase's plan cards count team members. Its comparison table shows one agent on each plan, and each extra agent costs $25 a month.
The two do not count credits the same way, so compare on what one answer costs on the model you would use. Chatbase charges per request to the model, and an answer that runs an action can take several requests. On ChatterLab most models cost 1 credit an answer, whatever its length. Models and credits.
Where your data lives
Chatbase is headquartered in San Francisco. Its privacy policy says the personal information it collects is stored in databases hosted in the United States and processed there, under standard contractual clauses, with a data processing addendum for customers. The policy also says its database and application run on AWS, in us-east-1, and the addendum says its primary processing takes place in the United States.
ChatterLab is run from Antwerp, Belgium. The application runs in Frankfurt, and the database and files are in the EU. Two steps run in the United States under data-processing terms: turning text into search vectors and sending e-mail. The GDPR page names both.
For agencies
Chatbase lists white-labelling on its Enterprise plan. On ChatterLab your own branding is on every plan, your own domain comes with Studio, and the Agency plan adds client management with usage per client, a monthly report per client in their language and a read-only dashboard for each client. White label for agencies.

Questions about switching
Is ChatterLab cheaper than Chatbase?
At each level the plan price is lower in figures: €29 against $40, €79 against $150 and €249 against $500 a month. Ours exclude VAT and are in euros. Because credits are counted differently, compare what your expected number of answers costs on each.
Is Chatbase GDPR compliant?
Chatbase says it is, and offers standard contractual clauses and a data processing addendum. Its data is stored and processed in the United States. ChatterLab keeps your visitors' conversations, your sources and your files in the EU, with two processing steps in the US that we name.
Can I keep my Chatbase setup while I test ChatterLab?
Yes. Build and test your ChatterLab agent first, on the free plan if you like, and swap the script on your site only when you are happy with the answers.
Does ChatterLab have voice or phone support?
No. ChatterLab answers in the chat widget. If you need voice or telephony, Chatbase offers them from its Standard plan.
Where is Chatbase better?
In the breadth of channels and integrations, voice and telephony, and certifications such as SOC 2. If those decide it for you, Chatbase is the better fit.
